As lawmakers worked into the night Friday to meet the Crossover deadline, multiple education bills were approved by the House and Senate -- including a bill that builds on the Georgia Promise Scholarship law which provides school vouchers for students.
SB 445 by Sen. Greg Dolezal, R-Cumming, updates how the state identifies eligible schools by specifying that public schools with a statewide attendance zone and certain charter schools would not be included in the Office of Student Achievement’s separate list used for Promise Scholarship purposes. The bill passed 50-2.
The bill changes several aspects of the Georgia Promise Scholarship private school voucher program at the request of the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) by updating how the state identifies eligible schools by specifying that public schools with a statewide attendance zone and certain charter schools would not be included in the Office of Student Achievement’s separate list used for Promise Scholarship purposes.
