Day 39 was a busy one at the State Capitol Tuesday, as lawmakers worked well into the night to get as may bills across the line before today’s Sine Die (final day of the 40-day session). While much of the news from the Gold Dome centered on the passage of the much anticipated and much talked about Literacy bill Tuesday, it wasn’t the only bill getting the attention of lawmakers.
The House approved SB 552, the True Patriotism and Universal Student Access or TPUSA Act – which lawmakers say guarantees equal treatment of school political clubs. House Republicans voted 95-68 along party lines to pass the bill despite objections from Democrats objections regarding Charlie Kirk, who co-founded the conservative student organization Turning Point USA. Kirk was assassinated last year during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University.
