The 29th Annual Highway Report from the Reason Foundation is out and Georgia is sitting at the, almost, top. The study is fairly sweeping in its scope, looking at the roads and bridges across 13 categories in every state – including traffic fatalities, pavement condition, congestion and spending. Virginia is ranked as the best highway system, with South Carolina, North Carolina and Ohio rounding out the top five behind Georgia’s second place finish.
“The department takes great pride in the state’s highway system being among the best in the nation, and this ranking reflects the hard work and dedication of our employees," said Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) Commissioner Russell R. McMurry, P.E. "However, we recognize that the work is never truly finished and remain committed to providing a safe, efficient, and innovative transportation network for the people of Georgia."
