State Sen. Greg Dolezal, the Republican nominee for Lt. Governor in the upcoming 2026 General Election, introduced legislation Tuesday – one day prior to the start of the special session which would create a constitutional amendment stating that “no person who is not a citizen of the United States shall be entitled to vote at any election.”

The bill was on the agenda for the Senate Committee on Ethics meeting Thursday but was not heard. Chairman Sam Watson, R- Moultrie, said: "We have already addressed this, and there are questions as to whether this resolution falls within the scope of the call for a special session."
