This month, years in the making, Delta and the Andrew J. Young Foundation joined local leaders and community members for a ribbon cutting at a new, aquaponics facility in Clayton County. The facility is a high-tech, closed-loop greenhouse that will serve as a model for sustainable, urban agriculture.
The facility will be able to operate year-round, in a highly-controlled environment able to withstand most weather challenges. It is also designed to not only produce fresh food but also teach valuable skills to local residents and young people. It is located some 15 minutes from Hartsfield, making the partnership with Delta a natural fit for a community improvement initiative, as well as Delta’s decades-old partnership with Andrew Young. Besides serving as mayor of Atlanta, Delta’s headquarters, Young also served on the Board of Directors, helping to spur Delta’s international growth, notably in Africa, and using his global connections to strengthen Delta’s international foundation. Delta is the largest U.S. to Africa carrier, flying to Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, and Morocco.
