There’s a week for just about everything here in Georgia and this one is no exception, as Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper proclaimed August 3–9, 2026, “Georgia Farmers Market Week” in recognition of the larger National Farmers Market Week and the important role farmers markets play in supporting farmers, consumers and local communities.
Farmers markets are the best way to find locally grown, fresh produce no matter where you are in the state. Georgia has nine official state farmers markets, as established by the Georgia Marketing Act of 1981. These markets, funded by the Department of Agriculture, are responsible for over $1 billion in sales each year. Many of them, including Atlanta, Augusta, Macon, Moultrie, Savannah and Thomasville are open year-round.
But those are far from the only farmers markets in the Peach State. Georgia Grown also publishes a digital map of nearly 70 farmers markets across the state that guarantees you can find one near you.
“Farmers markets connect Georgians directly with the farmers and producers who grow the food we put on our tables,” says Harper. “When you buy local, you support Georgia farm families, strengthen our food supply chain, and help keep dollars in your community. I encourage all Georgians to visit a local farmers market this week, buy Georgia Grown, and support the hardworking men and women who keep our state fed.”
