Nearly $1M awarded to Georgia ‘Farm to Food Bank’ program

With reports indicating that one in eight Georgians struggle to put enough nutritious food on the table while nearly 40 percent of food is wasted, farmers across the state have teamed with several regional food banks to recover surplus produce and help end hunger through the Farm to Food Bank Program

Tuesday, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper announced that the Georgia Farm to Food Bank Program has awarded $825,000 to eight of these regional food banks. The funding will help food banks provide fresh produce and protein to more than 430,000 Georgians facing food insecurity, Harper said.
