The city of Columbus is continuing to beef up its growing sports tourism bona fides, this time by pursuing Head of the Hooch, one of the largest regattas (aka rowing races) in the country.  The regatta is considering leaving its longtime home of Chattanooga, and Columbus is standing by to welcome the race with open arms.  Head of the Hooch attracts 6,500+ athletes every November, and generates nearly $10 million in direct economic impact per year.  Its 5,400 hotel room nights would create a near-citywide sellout, especially good news in November, one of the slower tourism months.  If the regatta does decide to move to the Peach State, the first Columbus-based edition of the race would take place in November of 2027.
