The vaunted U.S. News and World Report rankings are out, and Georgia has done well. Georgia Tech has moved even further up the list, to number six for public universities, and the University of Georgia is number 19. Along with California and Virginia, Georgia is one of only three states with multiple schools in the top 20. A number of factors are used to determine the rankings, including graduation and retention rates, peer assessment, social mobility and faculty research productivity.

Georgia Tech is ranked 29th overall among national universities, and also ranked fifth for Best Value Schools for the In-State Students category. To that end, it moved up 69 spots to the 39 slot for Best Value Schools (that out-of-state tuition is not exactly cheap at $35,000). As a largely engineering school, perhaps the biggest point of pride for Georgia Tech is its ranking as the nation’s number two engineering program – tied with Stanford and the University of California at Berkeley. Every single engineering discipline ranked in the top 5, with civil engineering ranked as the top program in the country.
