A special study committee tasked with looking at the impacts of kratom on youth continues its off-session work – including listening sessions highlighting the science and clinical perspectives. During its most recent meeting, the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Youth Exposure to Kratom and Retail-Available Substances also heard personal testimony from individuals who described positive experiences with kratom, along with diverse perspectives from a kratom manufacturer and presenters with experience in recovery and addiction.
During a discussion on current research on kratom, Dr. Merrill Norton and Dr. Randall Tackett of the UGA College of Pharmacy discussed its potential effects on Georgia’s youth, while Crissy Walton, RN, provided a clinical perspective on detoxification and patient care in the Athens area.
