Hunter safety education coming to Georgia classrooms

Georgia students in grades six through 12 will now have the option of taking a hunter safety education course as part of their curriculum after Senate Bill 148 was signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp. The course will be based on current hunting safety education courses offered by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Apprenticeship programs growing Georgia’s teacher pipeline

As part of its 2026 legislative priorities, the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) is calling on the General Assembly to support statewide expansion of apprenticeship programs that are building the state’s teacher pipeline. Over the past year, the state department has worked with districts statewide to formalize a pathway that allows paraprofessionals to earn teacher certification while continuing to work in their classrooms.

Senate committee passes priority tax reform legislation

Tax reform is one of the hottest issues at the State Capitol as the 2026 legislative session gets into full swing. Late last week, a priority tax bill for the Georgia Senate began making its way through the process when the Senate Committee on Finance passed SB 382, sponsored by Sen. Chuck Hufstetler, R–Rome.

In response to Minneapolis incident, House bill would increase protestor vehicle charges

In the wake of all the news reports regarding violent protests across the country, a Georgia lawmaker wants to address concerns while protecting law enforcement and protestors. Rep. Ginny Ehrhart, R-Powder Springs, this week introduced legislation that makes it a felony offense to use a motor vehicle to obstruct, hinder, block or otherwise interfere with any federal, state or local law enforcement officer in the discharge of his or her official duties.

Could Paramount be coming to Georgia?

Paramount Skydance, one of the biggest and most prominent entertainment companies in the world, is furious at its home state of California over a lawsuit filed by the state’s attorney general attempting to stop a merger.  In response, Chair David Ellison has threatened to move from Los Angeles to a state not actively suing his company, and Georgia was on the shortlist of possibilities.  Gov.
