Could a Democratic ‘ticket’ of Jason Carter for governor and Michelle Nunn for U.S. Senate actually get elected in Georgia thanks to — Bill Clinton? The former president is looking ahead to wife Hillary’s likely bid for the White House. Already he’s starting to distance himself, the missus, and a sure-to-grow faction of the Democratic Party from Obamacare and President Obama. That’s exactly what Carter and Nunn are going to have to do too, if they plan on being more than historical footnotes in 2014. Even now Clinton may unwittingly be doing their advance work. They need to chum up with him now, before such a move looks too self-serving. RISING
Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop. But now the Atlanta City Council is pushing back, with 11 councilmembers, led by Atlanta City Councilwoman Kelsea Bond signing onto a resolution signaling support for the idea.
