Cotton, carpet and kaolin. All are traditionally big industries in Georgia. And now comes—foreign nationals going to colleges and other post-secondary schools in the state. Total spending by these mostly young scholars surpassed the $500 million mark this year for the first time in Georgia history. Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop. But now the Atlanta City Council is pushing back, with 11 councilmembers, led by Atlanta City Councilwoman Kelsea Bond signing onto a resolution signaling support for the idea.
