The GOP-dominated General assembly at times this year has let ideology get the best of pragmatism. Note certain legislation on guns, education, driving privileges and more. That makes it even more laudable that legislation to make medical marijuana legal for certain sick children in Georgia still has a good shot at becoming law. Credit House and Senate leadership for giving their tacit approval to the possibility of ‘legalized pot.’ That ‘gave permission,’ so to speak, for House and Senate members to put preconceptions about drugs aside long enough to do the right thing. Moldova soon to be welcoming a Georgian
It is rare for a native-born Georgian to serve as an ambassador to a foreign nation, but J. Mark Burkhalter is one of that elite having been nominated by President Donald Trump and then just confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. The Alpharetta native represented north Fulton County in the General Assembly for 18 years and briefly served as speaker of the House of Representatives. A successful real estate developer, Burkhalter is a University of Georgia alum with a double major in German and Slavic Languages, and Global Studies/Political Science. As he prepares to locate in a country (a U.S. ally) bordered by Romania and Ukraine, his boat (and Georgia’s) is RISING….
