Tax limits to be on ballot

Voters will get a say on whether future legislators can boost income taxes with the passage of legislation Thursday sponsored by Senate Republican leaders.

The measure would ask voters to change the constitution to prohibit state income taxes from rising above the current 6 percent.

The Senate and House gave two-thirds majority votes to Senate Resolution 415 by Senate President Pro Tem David Shafer (R-Duluth and Johns Creek). Such supermajority is required for amendments to the state constitution.
