Fresh off its own battle over Religious Liberty, the City of Atlanta announced via Mayor Kasim Reed that it would be banning publicly-funded trips to North Carolina following its passage of a controversial transgender-bathroom law. Atlanta joins cities such as New York and Seattle in boycotting the state, and will likely rub salt in the wound as it courts some of the businesses put off by the law, which critics say is discriminatory. Kemp, Jones urge income tax cuts
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp was joined this week by Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington, and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in calling for an acceleration of the state’s scheduled income tax cuts. Last year’s HB 1437 set in motion a reduction of the state’s income tax rate from 5.75% to 4.99%, to be rolled out over several years.
