As reported by Insider Advantage last Saturday, amid some contentious delegate selection and resolution votes, the Georgia GOP voted for a new RNC committeewoman at the state convention in Augusta.

Ginger Howard won in a runoff against Maria Zack after Linda Umberger failed to make it past the first round. Howard had received the endorsement of Johnny Isakson and the nominating committee of the state party. She takes over for Linda Herren who was term-limited after holding the position since 2004.

The committeewoman and man, Randy Evans, who won easily, are the state’s representatives to the RNC, responsible for developing the party platform, as well as fundraising and election strategy. Herren served on the redistricting, budget and rules committees. She also served on the RNC National Platform Committee in 2004 and the National Rules Committee in 2008. Herren will remain on as committeewoman through the National Convention in Cleveland. Howard is set to join the team for observation in Cleveland for the week before when several RNC committees meet, including the all-important Rules Committee, which sets the governing rules for the convention. In addition to these committees, the committeeman and woman get one vote at RNC meetings and votes for the RNC Chairmanship.
