According to sources, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is one of the two finalists for Donald Trump’s running mate in the November General Election, along with Indiana Governor Mike Pence.

Rumors about the Georgian’s candidacy have swirled for months, but in recent days as Trump has whittled down his list Newt’s name has become a hot one on the tongue of politicos.  Gingrich would bring a wealth of political knowledge along with his razor wit, two qualities which would be very useful in what promises to be a bruising fight with Democrat Hillary Clinton.  Pence on the other hand would be more of a straightforward candidate, with Conservative bonafides to bridge the gap between outsider Trump and an establishment that has been reluctant to fully embrace him.

Newt this week agreed to end his formal relationship with Fox News, leading many to speculate he was pushing hard for VP.  Yesterday Gingrich made use of those Fox ties, taking talk show host Sean Hannity’s private jet to Indiana to meet with Trump.

The Donald has said he will make his pick Friday, so stay tuned.
