Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed followed in some big footsteps Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, speaking directly after Vice President Joe Biden.

The speech, clocking in at around four minutes, hit on the idea of “diversity over division”, painting a picture of two parties pulling American in different directions.  He went on to urge voters to “choose a steady-handed Commander-in-Chief over a loose cannon”.

As usual Reed wasn’t one for modesty either, taking credit for much of Atlanta’s economic boom by saying,

“When I became Mayor, our city was struggling through the worst recession in 80 years. We were broke. Crime was up. I looked around our city, and I saw that the way forward was to lean on one another, to turn to one another, and to make an agreement: That if a young woman was willing to learn, we would put a book in her hands. If a young man was willing to work, we would put a job and a paycheck in his hands. If you’re willing to step up, then we will meet you half way and, together, we would put your future back in your hands.”

The Mayor has long been considered a hot name for higher office, and a spot in the White House certainly isn’t out of the question should Hillary Clinton prevail in November.

While most networks skipped out on the speech in favor of letting their pundits break down the Veep’s remarks, you can see Reed’s comments below.
