A woman who allegedly attacked a Gwinnett County family with a flag pole more than a year ago has missed three court dates and still hasn’t been arrested more than a month after a bench warrant was issued.
Aisha Ibrahim was absent from arraignment dates in April and May. Both times the court continued the arraignment. The first time she was reportedly receiving medical care. The second time her attorney had filed for a court leave.
When she didn’t show in June, with no excuse offered, Gwinnett Superior Court Judge Tom Davis finally took action. He issued a bench warrant for her arrest and granted a prosecution motion for bond forfeiture.
As of Monday, she had not been booked back into the Gwinnett County Jail. Chief assistant district attorney Dan Mayfield normally serves as a spokesman for the DA’s office, but he was at a judicial conference this week. Tracie Cason answered a request for information, but said she was not familiar with the case.
Ibrahim faces four misdemeanor charges for assault and for battery and a felony charge of giving false information. Cason said a plea offer would normally be made on such charges, and she did not know if the defendant’s actions would impact that offer.
Ibrahim reportedly is a refugee from Somalia. Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not respond to a request for comment on the case.
According to reports, the Arno family was sitting outside their Lawrenceville home on May 31, 2016, when Ibrahim rushed them. The defendant allegedly grabbed a U.S. flag from the family’s mailbox and attempted to him Dami Arno and her 17-year-old daughter with the flag’s pole..
Dami Arno and two neighbors subdued the alleged attacker while the daughter called 911 for assistance. A son, 14-year-old Chuck Arno, rushed from the family’s home with a gun and held the attacker until police arrived.
