Come next January, the government of the state of Georgia will see a lot of turnover. A new governor, new lieutenant governor, new secretary of state, and besides all those, there may be significant turnover in the legislature. That new lieutenant governor will be appointing a team for leadership, some of which may be holdovers from the Cagle regime but new faces in legislative leadership are likely.
With all those new faces, they may start searching around for to make their mark. Occasionally these efforts search around to land on programs that may be ripe for the political taking. This past session, the Senate appointed a study committee to examine tax credits and programs that may have outlived their usefulness. The committee has recommended a continuing examination going forward. One of the most well-known tax credit programs that occasionally receives criticism is that of the film, television, and digital entertainment production.
