State Rep. Erica Thomas (D-Austell) made national headlines over the weekend when she took to the internet to tell the story of how a man in a Cobb supermarket verbally berated her and told her to “go back to where you came from” in a dispute over misuse of the express checkout lane. She later had to back off the racism angle when challenged by the man, Eric Sparkes, an avowed Democrat of Cuban descent, who vehemently denied making any racist comments during the confrontation and says he is now considering a lawsuit for defamation.
