Ten years ago in West Point, just north of Columbus, Kia opened its only manufacturing plant in the United States and the only automaker in Georgia.
The sprawling, 2,200 acre factory produces more than 340,000 vehicles per year, including the Telluride SUV, which is only produced at the plant. Kia ships vehicles to more than 940 dealerships nationwide as well as to Mexico, the Caribbean, and just recently, the Middle East.
Stuart Countess, Chief Administrative Officer at Kia Motors Manufacturing, sat down with our friends at Georgia CEO this week to discuss Kia’s ten years in Georgia, including how the Department of Economic Development’s Quick Start program helped produce a work force that has made the factory one of the most successful in America.
