On Saturday hundreds gathered at the Sovereign Condominium in Buckhead for the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, sponsored by FirstService Residential. The climb is part of a nationwide series that honors New York City firefighters, police officers and emergency workers who were killed in 9/11 and benefits the families of fallen firefighters.
More than 200 climbers participated in the event this year, walking up the equivalent of 110 stories – the same height as the original World Trade Center. Fire and police departments from nearly a dozen municipalities across the state were in attendance, raising more than $20,000 for the National Fire Fighter Foundation. Donations are still being accepted with the anniversary of 9/11 coming this Wednesday – you can donate HERE
FirstService Residential, the chief sponsor and Sovereign Building property manager, said that through firefighter and community participation we can ensure that each of the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 10 EMS are honored and that the world knows that we will never forget.
Next year’s climb is slated for Saturday, September 12th, so go ahead and put it on your calendar now as a great way to remember the brave first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11.
