Scott Turner, executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council, met with Savannah officials Monday to learn about the city’s wildly successful ‘opportunity zones,’ as well as to give some tips and pointers on what has been successful in similar areas around the country. Opportunity zones, which provide capital gains tax relief in specific areas, normally low income neighborhoods, were created around the country in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Fani Willis to skip Senate hearing
Attorneys for Fulton Co. District Attorney Fani Willis say she plans to ignore a pair of subpoenas and skip a scheduled Georgia Senate special committee hearing later today. The move will no doubt enrage GOP lawmakers and set up a courtroom battle, likely in the Georgia Court of Appeals over the legality of Legislature-ordered subpoenas, with Willis’ attorneys arguing they are void because they were issued after the 2024 legislative session.
