This year’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at the State Capitol will highlight two organizations that provide gifts to children in foster care in Georgia.
According to an announcement from Governor Brian Kemp, gifts collected through the Department of Family and Children Services’ Secret Santa Program and Clark’s Christmas Kids (sponsored by Clark Howard) will be distributed to over 9,000 youth in 126 counties across the state.
This year marks 29 years of Clark’s Christmas Kids collecting toys and gifts for foster children across the state. He teams with the Division of Family and Children’s Service which operates “Secret Santa” to help make the holidays a little better for children and youth in Georgia’s foster care system. For the past few years, Secret Santa has allowed children to ask for three items with a cumulative value of no more than $150.
First Lady Marty Kemp, Clark Howard, and the Georgia Building Authority will join the Governor in hosting the annual State Capitol Tree Lighting Ceremony today at 1 p.m. The ceremony will include the reveal of the twenty-five-foot Eastern Red Cedar from Cobb County with 25,000 lights.
Clark Howard, an Atlanta native and nationally syndicated talk show host, will be this year’s featured speaker. The ceremony will also include a performance by the Atlanta Boy Choir; photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus; and Georgia Grown refreshments.
Governor and First Lady Kemp hosted the annual Tree Lighting at the Governor’s Mansion this past weekend.
