Several Georgia Republican Senators are fed up with the impeachment proceedings against President Donald J. Trump.
Calling the acts in Washington “a circus,” State Senator Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta) joined Senators Steve Gooch (R–Dahlonega) and John Wilkinson (R–Toccoa) Wednesday in pre-filing Senate Resolution LC 112 0167 condemning the Congress of the United States for the impeachment proceedings.
“There are a number of major issues that Congress should be working on right now — like healthcare and the national debt – but they are wasting time on these ridiculous allegations,” said Beach. “The economy is booming, the President is doing a great job, and we have members of Congress wasting time on this impeachment. They are not working for the good of this country.
“Everyone I have spoken with is sick and tired of this, and they want it to end. They want Congress to focus on the real issues facing this country.”
Resolution LC 112 0167 will be introduced in the Georgia Senate when the General Assembly reconvenes on January 13th. Wednesday night, The U.S. House of Representatives voted primarily along party lines to impeach President Trump on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
“Politics hit a new low in our Nation’s Capitol with the impeachment vote that is expected to be taken tonight,” said Sen. Gooch (who made the announcement prior to the vote). “It is sad to see the partisan bickering in our U.S. House of Representatives. Congress should be working together to protect our families and fellow Americans across the United States.
“Cutting our national debt and deficit spending should be a priority at a time when we are experiencing historic low unemployment numbers and historic highs in the stock market,” Gooch added. “Protecting our borders and investing in much needed infrastructure should be the issues they are debating, not these baseless allegations against President Trump.”
Insiders say if the bill is ultimately brought to a floor vote in the GOP-controlled state Senate next year, it could embarrass some Democrats in parts of Georgia who would have to go on the record with a yes or no vote.
