The success of the Atlanta BeltLine has been much discussed, if you need proof just check out how many people are using it on any given sunny weekend. Less heralded is the massive economic impact that the pathway has generated – the numbers are staggering.
Atlanta BeltLine President and CEO Clyde Higgs made a video with Georgia CEO to discuss some of the facts and figures behind Atlanta’s most popular path:
Over $500 million of taxpayer dollars have been invested in the BeltLine, not a small pricetag. However, there has been more than $4.5 billion in private investment along the BeltLine corridor, an 8:1 return on investment – not bad. 11,000 permanent jobs have been created already by new developments along the path, with a total of 30,000 expected by the time it is complete. Likewise there have been 30,000 temporary construction jobs created, with 18,000 more expected as developments ramp up.
