A Senate committee gave its okay Tuesday to a bill that officials say will improve the quality of care in assisted living and personal care facilities across Georgia. The Senate’s Regulated Industries and Utilities committee unanimously approved a substitute version of HB 987, which also adds new requirements for handling COVID-19 or another pandemic.
“What we have learned through all of this (pandemic) is that the elderly population is extremely vulnerable,” said Sen. Bill Cowsert (R-Athens), who serves as chairman of the committee. “The industry was unprepared for this pandemic, and how could they have been prepared? This is a once in 100 years event.”
