While some of the most prominent film festivals in the world, including Cannes and Tribeca, have been cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus, one of Georgia’s biggest events will go on, at least in some form. Organizers of the Macon Film Festival, scheduled for August 13-30, say the show must go on, even if many screenings will be moved to an online format. At least two feature films, including one on legendary Macon-based piano player Chuck Leavell, will be screened at the historic Grand Opera House, following strict social distancing guidelines of course. Festival board chairman Steven Fulbright says the event is important both to Macon and the state’s burgeoning film industry, and hopes it will still be able to highlight some of the state’s talented filmmakers.
