As part of celebrating next year’s 45th anniversary of Lee Elder becoming the first black golfer to play the Masters, Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley recently announced that the club will fund the creation of a women’s golf program at Paine College, a Historically Black College and University located in Augusta, as well as establish the Lee Elder Scholarships at Paine College in his honor. Augusta National will also award two scholarships annually, one each to a men’s and women’s golf team member. Elder will also help open the 2021 Masters alongside traditional starters Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus.
