There’s been a lot of talk in the last few weeks about who will run for one of Georgia’s two U.S. Senate seats in 2022. Democrat Raphael Warnock currently holds the seat, filling the unexpired term of retired Sen. Johnny Isakson. Today, he has an announced opponent. Republican activist, veteran and owner of a construction company, Kelvin King announced Monday that he will be challenging Warnock and running for the Republican nomination.
“We are ready and prepared for a 13-month campaign to win the Republican nomination. We have a plan and a solid team in place,” said King, during an exclusive interview Monday with InsiderAdvantage. “I truly believe I am the right person to challenge and beat Raphael Warnock.”
King believes Georgia is in a “bit of a crossroads,” and that Republicans must decide if they are “knocked down or knocked out.” “I believe Georgians are looking for someone willing to fight for them.”
A former Air Force officer and graduate of the Air Force Academy, King is focusing on three main issues going into the campaign: strengthening the state’s economy, prioritizing national defense and making sure our Constitutional rights are protected.
“I am committed to maintaining President Trump’s tax cuts,” said King. “I want to ensure that the citizens of Georgia keep more money in their pockets,” said King. “Also, as a former Air Force officer, prioritizing our national defense is very important to me – and that means securing our borders, strengthening our military and supporting those who serve in our military while in service and those transitioning out of service. That’s near and dear to my heart.”
King said he also wants to ensure that the Constitutional rights are protected — especially the right to life, 2nd Amendment rights and religious freedoms. “All of these are being threatened right now.”
King is a native Georgian. He was born in Macon and moved to Mableton as a young child. He says he spent most of his childhood in a single-family home and worked to overcome the challenges of poverty. He says that while he became the man of the family early, his mother and grandmother worked hard to instill in him the values needed to grow into a successful adult. It was these values, he says, that earned him an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy where he was an All-Conference football player.
“Career politicians, woke corporations and the cancel culture are all empowered while our families and small businesses are left to pay the price,” said King. “The Biden Administration is currently wrecking our economy, creating a crisis at our border, and systematically dismantling every bit of the ‘America First’ agenda implemented over the last four years. I believe our nation deserves better than President Biden and his weak leaders, just as I believe our state deserves better than Senator Warnock’s divisive far left representation.”
King and his wife Janelle live in Sandy Springs. He and Janelle founded “Speak Georgia” a non-profit designed to educate and provide resources to the community directly from subject matter experts. More information on King and his campaign can be found on his website at kelvinking.com
