As federal COVID relief funds continue to be doled out to municipalities around the state, Jefferson County officials are making sure they take advantage of their opportunity.  A massive road construction project in the county, originally slated to begin in 2024 and not finish until sometime in the 2030’s, is getting a big time head start.  Gov. Brian Kemp and GDOT Commissioner Russell McMurry last week announced that some $150 million will be used to widen US Highway 1 in a series of four projects, two north and two south of the city of Louisville, with construction starting later this month.  The upgrades will help not only Jefferson Co. residents, but also some of the many trucks that pass through the county on their way to and from the Port of Savannah to the east.
