Too much of the news in recent years has been about the rural healthcare crisis in Georgia, with hospitals closing and state officials scrambling to find ways to ensure that all Georgians have access to medical care. Well that trend has been bucked in Northwest Georgia, as it was announced recently that CHI Memorial will build a new hospital in Catoosa County. The facility will include an intensive care unit (ICU), a full service emergency department, and operating rooms and procedural suites. State Sen. Jeff Mullis, who serves as president and CEO of the Northwest Georgia Joint Development Authority during the day, called the news “a significant boost to our regional economic development.” Groundbreaking is scheduled for the spring of 2022, with a targeted completion date of mid-2024.
