UGA alums nationwide were heartbroken when the news broke that the Varsity’s Athens location was closing its doors after almost 60 years – leaving the city without a Varsity location for the first time in nearly 90 years.  Good news though – the iconic Georgia restaurant chain announced this Monday that it will be opening two new locations near Athens, one in Oconee County and one as part of a new mixed-use project in Bethlehem, in Barrow County.  Generations of chili dog and Frozen O-lovers rejoice – future generations of Athens residents and UGA students will get the same Varsity experience as their parents, grandparents, and even great grandparents got when they were in school.
