Usually the discussion about rural healthcare is accompanied by a dour tone, but not so in Bryan County outside of Savannah, where St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System is planning on building a 40,000 square feet on land near the recently-announced Bryan County Mega-site. The hospital will fill a vital need for Bryan County residents – as of now the closest urgent care clinic is nearly 30 miles away in Pooler. The county continues to be one of the fastest growing in the nation, with the latest census revealing a population increase of 48 percent between 2010 and 2020. Now between the Mega-site – the largest single economic development project in state history – and new healthcare options, the future in southeast Georgia is looking brighter than ever.
