Former President Donald Trump has Georgia on his mind, evidenced again in his Saturday address to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando. After addressing topics ranging from President Biden to Ukraine, he expressed support for the cityhood movement for Atlanta’s crime-ridden Buckhead neighborhoods. In the process, he attacked several Republicans he says are blocking legislation that would give people the right to vote on the issue.
Trump joins his ally, former Sen. David Perdue, who two months ago expressed support for cityhood as he battles Gov. Brian Kemp in the Peach State’s May 24th GOP gubernatorial primary.
Kemp has declined to take a position on the cityhood legislation in the General Assembly, saying that he hopes Atlanta’s new mayor should be given a chance to address rising violent crime.

“What is happening in the city of Atlanta is nothing short of disgraceful. It’s national news and a regional embarrassment. The good people of Buckhead don’t want to be a part of defunding the police and the high crime that is plaguing their communities. However, RINOs (“Republicans-in-Name-Only”) like Governor Brian Kemp, the man responsible along with his puppet master Mitch McConnell for the loss of two Senate seats and the 2020 presidential vote, Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, Speaker David Ralston and state Sens. Butch Miller, Jeff Mullis and John Albers always talk a big game but they don’t deliver. What good is having Republican leaders if they are unwilling to fight for what they campaigned on? Every RINO must go! Let the voters decide on the very popular City of Buckhead proposal.”
