Every year in late March Macon becomes the pinkest city in the world as its 350,000 Yoshino cherry trees spring into blossom. The bloom lasts about 10 days, and Macon celebrates with a series of concerts, events, rides and concessions as part of its annual International Cherry Blossom Festival. Thanks to this current cold spell the blossom hasn’t started yet – even as the festival gets under way this week. But it won’t be long now, when temperatures begin to climb back up Macon will turn a vibrant shade of pink, marking the true beginning of spring and celebrated with a week of festivities in Middle Georgia.
