A bill known as “Izzy’s Law,” that would require the Department of Public Health to develop a widely-accessible safety plan for aquatic activities based on the standards for nationally-accredited swim instructors, is headed to the governor’s office for his signature. This legislation, sponsored by Sen. Max Burns, R-Sylvania, is one of many bills that received final passage on Sine Die – the final day of the 2023 legislative session.

Izzy’s Law is named after Israel “Izzy” Scott, a 4-year-old who died as a result of a drowning accident during a backyard swim lesson in Burke County, on June 14, 2022. Members of his family were special guests at the Capitol as the votes were taking place.
