The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is quickly becoming a growing concern – and not just from those employees who are afraid of losing their jobs. The concerns are now turning to issues like national security – including fears about the possibility of potential problems involving national defense and one of the country’s foreign adversaries — China. As a result, U.S. Rep. Rich McCormick, R-GA, wants to ensure that China never has the ability to exploit legal loopholes and use American-made AI technology to strengthen its own military.
McCormick has teamed with several of his peers to co-author the bipartisan “CLOUD AI Act,” which he says would eliminate any loopholes for the overseas use and development of AI. Fellow co-sponsors include Rep. Jeff Jackson, D-NC, Rep. Michael Lawler, R-NY, and Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-TX.
