On Monday local officials and executives from Hyundai America gathered to mark one of the first major milestones for Bryan County’s Metaplant America, the $5.5 billion electric vehicle battery facility.  The occasion was the arrival of the first shipment of equipment to be used at the facility, a crane to be used at the stamping facility.  The project, currently the largest economic development in state history, is on pace to open in 2025.  That means a whole lot of heavy machinery will be coming through the newly-deepened and expanded Port of Savannah, meaning it’s a very good thing that the Georgia Ports Authority and Hyundai America officials have a close working relationship that was on full display at Monday’s celebration.
