Earlier this month Cobb Travel & Tourism met for the group’s ‘Annual Meeting and Mixer’ to celebrate the past year, hand out awards to remarkable community members, and publish up to date numbers relating to the county’s number one economic driver – tourism.
While Atlanta may host the flashiest events and Savannah’s historic squares and sandy beaches may feature on the most travel blogs, Cobb County’s own tourism industry supports more than 18,000 jobs with $2.4 billion in economic impact in 2022. That number marks a 9 percent increase over 2021 as Cobb, like much of the state, continues to bounce back from the pandemic.
According to numbers presented at the meeting, each Cobb County household would need to be taxed an additional $726 per year to replace taxes generated by tourism activity.
CT&T also took time to recognize local partners who have made an impact in the county’s tourism efforts over the past year by handing out its annual ‘Spot-On Awards.’
Among those winners – the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, which hosts concerts, events, conferences, and conventions that continue to bring in tens of thousands of attendees from all over the world. The Omni Hotel at The Battery Atlanta, highlighted in the most recent issue of James magazine, was named CT&T’s ‘Hotel Partner of the Year.’
