There were various statewide Republican and Democrat primary runoffs this past Tuesday. In this article James Magazine Online is focusing on three Democratic races in Augusta-Richmond County, Rockdale County and DeKalb County. They share an interesting common theme.

In Augusta-Richmond County’s Democratic Party sheriff’s primary, it looked like incumbent Richard Roundtree would garner a third term. And that was despite accusations he has been soft on crime and has a weak work ethic, among other allegations. It turned out, though, that Eugene “Gino Rock” Brantley, a county Marshal’s Office sergeant with 18 years of experience in the sheriff’s office, defeated Roundtree in a tough campaign. Credit goes tot an interesting black/white coalition behind Brantley which included Republicans who took a Democratic ballot since there is no GOP candidate in November.
