Lt. Gov. Burt Jones says he is committed to ensuring that female athletes across Georgia have the right to compete on a fair and level playing field. Earlier this month, Jones announced the creation of the Georgia Senate Special Committee on the Protection of Women’s Sports. And Tuesday Jones attended the first meeting of the committee to provide opening remarks.
“The stories these young women, including Riley Gaines (from Georgia Tech), shared are horrific and further solidify why protecting women’s sports and their rights will remain a priority in the Georgia Senate,” said Jones. “This issue isn’t about marginalizing one group; it is about protecting women’s sports and all of the work they put into competing and becoming elite athletes. I want to thank my colleagues for standing their ground to protect women’s sports and to ensure that in the future, what these brave women experienced does not happen to any females participating in Georgia sports, at any level.”
