Vernon Krause, the car dealership magnate behind the $3 billion mixed-use development ‘The Gathering at Forsyth,’ isn’t joking around in his pursuit for an NHL team. This month county leaders approved the plan, including pledging a $225 million bond to help pay for the proposed arena’s construction. The catch? The NHL has to actually award Forsyth an expansion franchise. Krause says he’s met with league commissioner Gary Bettman to discuss the idea, and with approval from county officials now has carte blanche to make a formal proposal to the league. The Gathering at Forsyth would be a Battery-esque development including retail, hotels, apartments and dining all built around a state of the art 18,000 seat arena.
