Atlanta’s greatest July 4th tradition is the Peachtree Road Race. Started in 1970 by the Atlanta Track Club, the inaugural race had just 110 runners. By the end of the decade it was the largest 10k race in the world – a title it hasn’t relinquished since. More than 70,000 amateur and professional runners will take part today on the classic road course on Peachtree Street, competing for prizes, pride, or just to collect this year’s coveted t-shirt. Carr joins LSU football fight
In the South, college football is religion – and now it’s politics too. Members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) are furious with LSU over its attempts to sign players already in the NFL to come back to college to play for the Tigers. On Wednesday, Attorney General Chris Carr, (presumably at the behest of some big names at UGA) urged the SEC to take “all measures available” against LSU. Thursday, the league heeded that advice, suing LSU Head Coach Lane Kiffin. The legal quagmire pitting the conference against itself has LSU SINKING…
