The Georgia Historical Society (GHS) has announced it is expanding its Community Archives Initiative using digital crowdsourcing strategies. The Community Archives Initiative encourages Georgia residents to become part of history by volunteering to enhance archival collections alongside archivists, attending community-based workshops, and contributing family artifacts and other materials. The new digital crowdsourcing push aims to expand users and editors by opening up access to help make GHS more searchable and useful to researchers and educators, using features like photo tagging and transcription of historic documents.
“This is a great way for people to engage with history on their own schedule, from wherever they are,” said LaPortia Mosley, GHS Community Engagement Officer. “Whether you’re a student, retiree, teacher, or lifelong learner, your voice and your experiences can help unlock stories hidden in the archives.”
