Eight food banks across Georgia have been awarded $825,000 as part of the Georgia’s Farm to Food Bank Program. State Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper announced the funding late last week as part of a partnership between the Georgia Department of Agriculture and Feeding Georgia.

According to Harper, the Farm to Food Bank Program provides more than 14 million pounds of fresh produce to Georgians facing food insecurity by purchasing “unmarketable” but otherwise healthy produce from Georgia farmers and distributing it to those in need through the Georgia Food Bank Network. The Program is supported by an annual appropriation from the Georgia General Assembly.
