City officials in Rome are taking a community-centered approach to battling the homeless crisis in the form of a partnership between the city of Rome and the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority. So far the city has four units designated for the program, with eight more on the way. Organizations like Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Cornerstone Church and First Baptist Church of Rome have provided volunteers and donations of household items. In addition to providing clean, secure living spaces for the unhoused, the program also seeks to get them involved in community programs, offers guidance, and eventually helps to find jobs, all in the name of providing a support system capable of breaking the cycle of homelessness.
