Atlanta City Councilmembers were surprised last week when they came across a line item on a budget proposal dubbed ‘Project Robin’ with a price tag of $800 million. Categorized as a ‘health venture,’ it became known that the mystery project is a proposed hospital, meant to be funded by a tax allocation district extension and needed to fill the gaps in healthcare left by the closure of the Atlanta Medical Center. Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop.
